Suzanne Ford (she/her) is the Executive Director of SF Pride.
The first trans woman to hold the office, she is a fierce activist working toward equal rights for the trans community, and is now a recipient of the OUT100 award. She is a founding member of the SF Pride Golf Tournament, the first and only PGA-endorsed event ensuring queer visibility in one of the most cis-heteronormative spaces in the world– as well as SF Pride’s most lucrative board-led annual fundraiser to date. Beyond the Rainbow features Suzanne in the documentary.
Nguyen Pham (He/Him) is President Emeritus of San Francisco Pride, where he made history as the first Vietnamese person to lead the organization. A Bay Area native, he served on the SF Pride board for eight consecutive years, including roles as secretary, vice president, and president. During his tenure, Nguyen helped launch and grow the SF Pride Golf Tournament into one of the organization’s most successful fundraisers and guided SF Pride through pivotal moments in the ongoing movement for LGBTQ+ equity and visibility. He is also a longtime performer with CHEER San Francisco, a volunteer nonprofit that raises funds for community members facing life-challenging conditions, and serves as president of the Mensa Foundation, which champions scholarships and support for marginalized BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Antonio Contreras is a San Francisco Bay Area filmmaker and cultural storyteller whose work has been recognized internationally. A 12-time International Fashion Film Award winner, his films have screened at ASVOFF (Paris) and the La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival, among others. Known for his collaborations with legendary figures such as Pat Cleveland, Contreras creates visually compelling films that explore identity, leadership, and legacy at the intersection of art and activism.
Beyond the Rainbow is a powerful short documentary that chronicles a pivotal moment in Pride history, spotlighting two trailblazing leaders whose courage and visibility redefine the future of LGBTQ+ representation.
Beyond the Rainbow is a compelling short documentary that chronicles a historic and transformative moment for San Francisco Pride through the leadership of two groundbreaking figures: Suzanne Ford, the first openly transgender woman to serve as Executive Director of San Francisco Pride, and Nguyen Pham, the first gay Vietnamese American to serve as board president of the organization.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Bay Area’s LGBTQ+ community, the film explores the personal journeys, challenges, and triumphs of Ford and Pham while underscoring the enduring importance—and urgent necessity—of Pride as both a celebration and a movement. Through intimate interviews and archival footage, the documentary reflects on how visibility, representation, and courageous leadership continue to shape the fight for equality. The film is elevated by a dynamic soundtrack that includes a hit song by Miguel Migs featuring Jason Brock, adding emotional depth and cultural resonance to the storytelling. Beyond the Rainbow serves as both a tribute to the past and a call to action for the future—honoring the legacy of Pride while reaffirming why Pride still matters today.
